Jul 09, 2023Mel Greig: 'Kim Kardashian just revealed the secret of thousands of women'
By Mel Greig| 5 months ago
At first, I was horrified when I saw what Kim Kardashian had shared on social media this morning, she had revealed a fashion secret that many of us don't like to share.
It really hit home for me and after the horror had subsided, I applauded her.
She revealed her real hair, which is thin and short which is not what we normally see with Kim Kardashian, it's normally long and luscious locks.

But this is the reality for a lot of women including me, I have short thin hair and rely on hair extensions for the full and luscious look.
It's a personal choice as to what can make a woman feel feminine, whether that's a healthy natural look, relying on cosmetic surgery, building a peach in the gym, or having luscious hair.
For me, I don't feel I was born to have thin and short hair. I WANT ALL THE HAIR and because I can't grow it myself, I rely on the experts to help make me feel feminine.
I will rarely show people what my real hair actually looks like because there's a sense of shame to it. You can feel embarrassed for not having thick luscious locks (I blame social media for that).

But Kimmy K has given us a reminder just to embrace it, it's one of the most real posts I have ever seen from her (Well technically, North posted it... but same same).
So, today I'm getting my real hair out for Kimmy K. I'm in-between extensions so I can swim in the pool and ocean on repeat, and I have been feeling self-conscious but hey THIS IS ME... Including last nights tan that I haven't washed off yet.
My hairdresser Samantha Parsons, who is a hair extension expert on the Gold Coast, says: "Extensions have come such a long way over the years. Techniques and products are constantly evolving.
"It's so quick and easy for women to add instant thickness and length to their hair. A lot of my clients use extensions to add fullness to their hair especially after postpartum hair loss.

Parsons adds: "Extensions are a great way of enhancing your colour without damaging your own hair or if you are like Kim K and like to mix up your colour's extensions bring your hair back to life with thickness length and shine – all of which is often affected in the colouring process.
"You only need the tiniest bit of hair to be able to add in extensions, people with short hair don't realise that they too can have long and thick hair."
I've tried so many different types of extensions and to be honest, there were some that did wreck my hair as my hair was so thin, I found the extensions with glue or tape would often pull out if yanked on too hard (I'll save the yanking mention for another article, it was a wild night) which would create bald spots.
So, its important to do your research and work out what extensions are best for your hair. I use the weft technique which has been really healthy for my hair, it doesn't involve any glue it's almost a clever trick where it's sewn into your hair using only your hair.
North, thank you for sharing your mum's hair to the world you've made some of us feel a little bit more human today. I'm basically just like Kim Kardashian minus everything else.
